BUGGYPOWER is a biotechnological company devoted to produce high quality biomass of
marine microalgae containing high nutritional products as polyunsaturated fatty acids (EPA,
DHA), vitamins, essential aminoacids, minerals pigments, etc. which are addressed to the
markets of Nutraceuticals, Food an, Feed.
Our industrial facility is one of the largest in Europe in partnership with Electricidade da Madeira (local electricity provider). Our own production
technology is based on 8 m high closed photobioreactors (PBRs) operated by air-lift and
arranged in an optimized distribution for an improving solar uptake. Our operational plant size is 1,100 m3 of photoautotrophic continuous culture with an estimated production of 60 t
Additionally and aiming to close the sustainable cycle, our process includes the use of fossil CO2
emissions as microalgae carbon source, the recycling of nutrients obtained from the harvesting
processes and the profiting of residual biomass fluxes for obtaining Biofuels by Hydrothermal
To successfully run it, the company holds a highly qualified and multidisciplinary team of
people (about 35) including professionals from different areas of knowledge as biology,
engineer, chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition, etc.
